Local Fishing Update

It’s almost June, and do you know what that means?

Well, here in the North Valley, it means fishing is excellent all over!

Acrobatic shad are running, landlocked Lake Oroville king salmon and bass are biting, and the world-class wild rainbow catch and release fishing in Redding is going gangbusters.

And a little further up the coast, the upcoming Columbia River sturgeon trips offer excellent fishing for big prehistoric monster sturgeon… more on that below.

With so many great choices, it’s just an incredible time of year to be out fishing. There are lots of fish to be caught, and lots of fun for all ages.

Salmon Fishing Season is Coming

Looking ahead, river salmon fishing season will be coming up soon. From early indications, it looks like September and October this year should offer some insane fishing for kings!

Realistically, we could be looking at the best salmon run since 2002. Only time will tell for sure, but lots of salmon are already in the river, which is an excellent sign.

The limit this year is 2 salmon, so after a fun day of catching, anglers will have lots of fresh fish for the table and smoker.

A Rare Opportunity for Columbia River Sturgeon

You know what I really enjoy about being a professional fishing guide?

It’s guiding anglers to some of the best fishing on the West Coast!

Many anglers have taken all the local trips with me, and some have fished my Alaska trips too. But this year, you’ll have a rare opportunity to fish for Columbia River sturgeon with me.

Normally, the Columbia River trips sell out well in advance, just by word of mouth. The season is short, and there are limited spots. It sells out quickly.

But this year, unavoidable last-minute cancellations have opened a few spots for lucky anglers!

The Columbia River is an amazing sturgeon fishery. Where else can you catch (and release) 20-40 sturgeon per day?

Some of them are really big fish too… up to 10 feet long.

The truly big fish are exceptional, of course, but there’s always a chance with every tug on the line. Lots are in the 3 to 6-foot size, and any of them will put up a good battle.

The Columbia River sturgeon fishing trip is a really good fishing adventure, along with a comfortable stay at the renown riverside Louis River Bed and BreakfastThese are inclusive trips, and include lodging, meals, and fishing.
