Rods were bending, reels were screaming, nets were flying, and people were whooping it up!

It was an exciting opening day for the upper Sacramento River above Red Bluff. At one point, I saw 8 fish on at once among the boats fishing that morning.

Our clients did quite well, with limits (8) of salmon up to 31.3 pounds by 7:26 am. The bites were hard and frequent… bam bam bam.

Nice early limits from the upper Sacramento River salmon fishing opener

Most of the fish bit our proprietary jumbo ZZ-17 plug, and the best colors were chartreuse silver and dragonfly.

From the looks of things, it’s going to be a big fish year this season. Not only that, but it’s likely to be the best season we have seen in 9 years.

If you want to get in on the salmon action this year, please let Samantha know in our office (800-995-5543). Our fall calendar is almost completely full, but she can let you know what seats are open.

We’re also taking bookings for 2024 Togiak River salmon fishing, as 2023 is already booked up. It’s a very popular fly-in adventure to the Togiak River Lodge in unspoiled Alaska. If Alaska has been on your bucket list, this is a great opportunity to fish there with me.
